Biography
Hi, I am DU Zhanqiu 杜瞻湫, and you can also call me Patrick. I received my B.A. from Fudan University in Shanghai. I was an Electronic Engineering major but transferred to the College of Philosophy to study Chinese philosophy and philology. In my leisure time, I love practicing Chinese calligraphy and cooking.
Research Interests
I am mainly passionate about Confucianism and the history of late imperial China. I am also interested in Chinese intellectual history, printing culture, popular religion, and Confucianism as religion.
Research Description
My research is about religious Confucianism in late imperial China. I am always interested in the religious life of Confucian literati-officials. I am currently working on a project about the Wenchang cult (文昌信仰) in the Qing. Wenchang is the God of Literature and Examination. He was worshipped by millions of Confucian literati-officials and was included in the state sacrifice system in late imperial China. I am also interested in kongjiao or Confucianity (the term coined by Anna Sun) in the 20th century. I hope my research could make a contribution to the debates on the religiosity of Confucianism.
