Research Interests

My interest lies broadly in the intersects of Japanese literature, disability studies, affection and political studies.

Research Description

I am currently working on representations of aged bodies in the post-war era. I look at not only canonical authors such as Kawabata Yasunari, Tanizaki Junichiro, and Enchi Fumiko, but also some of the representatives of the popular culture, such as Ariyoshi Sawako, and filmmakers such as Kurosawa Akira. Personally, I am fascinated by the myth of disabled identity (can be communal or individual), and how the authors creatively diversifies this somewhat discursive identity category of disability.
