Summer 2021 funding opportunities

Departmental Grants

Conference Travel Grant - Usually Departmental Deadline in mid-September and mid-February; administered through Graduate College -see application here, the "Graduate College Dissertation Travel Grant" (usually Departmental Deadline of early September and late February). Criteria: Must be presenting a paper at a professional conference; application procedures: submit conference information, letter of acceptance to conference, and budget.

Summer Research Awards - Usually two awards, a maximum of $1,500 each, for research travel purposes (Usually early April Departmental Deadline). Criteria: Excellence of Research plan. Application procedures: submit 3-page summer research proposal and budget, including other sources of funding.

Dissertation Travel Grant - Usually Departmental Deadline in early to mid-September for this very lucrative award of up to $5,000; administered through Graduate College - For further information contact the Fellowship Office at 333-0036 or gradfellowships@illinois.edu.

EALC Conference Travel - Usually Departmental Deadline of October 1 and March 1. Three scholarships of maximum of $500 each toward travel to give a conference paper any time between October 15 of the current year and October 14 of the following year. Criteria: Must be presenting a paper at a professional conference; application procedures: submit conference information, letter of acceptance to conference, and budget.

EALC Graduate Student Scholarship - One scholarship (maximum of $2000; Usually early December) for Graduate Student who has demonstrated greatest scholastic achievement in the AM or PhD program. Application Procedure: Two-page summary of scholarly research, including previous achievements as well as short-term and long-term plans; transcript; letter of recommendation of adviser.

EALC Best-Paper Award - One scholarship granted (maximum award $100) to EALC Graduate Student who has written the most promising research paper of the current academic year (Deadline usually end of Fall Semester) Any paper completed in Spring and Fall semester of current year will be accepted. Criteria: Best scholarship expressed in research paper).

EALC Outstanding TA Award - One award for the Best TA in Language Courses and One award for the Best TA in General Education Courses (maximum award $500). Presented near end of spring semester annually. Deadline: Early May. Criteria: Outstanding contribution in Language or General Education Classroom. Application Procedure: Submit nomination letter from Professor in charge of course together with ICES scores.

Incoming students in EALC have recently been awarded the Graduate School Fellowship for Underrepresented Students as well as FLB (Foreign Languages Building) Graduate Student Fellowships.
